Rest of the Week in Taipei

⋆⊱༻𖥸༺⊰⋆ Our field trip to Pinglin is probably my favorite thing we have done so far, and not just because the name reminds me of penguins (so of course I have to love it). I remember following Erin onto the second bus with all the NTU students, and having a few moments of regret as soon as I sat down to find everyone on their phone. I wanted to socialize. And I’m not great at persuading shy souls to talk with me, it makes me feel like I have to open an oyster. I took a deep breath and reminded myself discomfort is where growth happens, and I tried my best the graceful act of balance, asking questions without the conversation becoming an interrogation.  I was very grateful when we first arrived, there was a bathroom. Our First Days Here in Taipei

  · · ─ ·ð–¥¸· ─ · · “Taipei really rewards you for exploring,” he said, as the MRT green line doors opened and closed. “Like, any random alley you walk down, you will find something cool. A kick ass coffeeshop, or a cute little terrace full of plants…” I smiled at this stranger I had just met on the subway, feeling grateful to have an extroverted local sit next to me first thing out of the airport (despite my messy hair, no makeup, and probably stinky breath). He explained that Taipei is located in a valley, and showed on a map the four beasts to the South East side of the city. These mountains are named after the Tiger, Leopard, Lion and Elephant, because their ridges evoked imagery of 4 mythical and powerful beasts, reminding early observers of these celestial animals. “You HAVE to go hiking here,” he said pointing to a chinese name on google maps.
